My Approach to Counseling

I believe that people tend to hurt and heal in relationships.  What we have experienced and where we come from matters.  Our stories matter.  Understanding ourselves and our relationships within our own story is so important, and we all have many strengths that we can leverage in order to pursue our healing, our goals, and our dreams.

From a clinical perspective, I practice through a psychodynamic lens.  Psychodynamic therapy has been scientifically researched and shown to help in the treatment of a wide range of mental health conditions (such as stress, anxiety, depression, trauma, etc.) as well as to increase understanding of the self and of relationships.

Psychodynamic approaches to counseling place emphasis on understanding the whole person within the context of their past, present, and future, and places a lot of importance on the quality of relationships.  This means that the counseling relationship is also very important, and I will do all that I can to make our relationship one that is open, safe, non-judgmental, and exploratory.  You are the expert on yourself, and I am here to support you in this.

The fact that I am a Nigerian American immigrant gives me a vested interest in cultural diversity, sensitivity, and curiosity.  It is my hope that all of my clients would feel a sense of warmth, openness, and acceptance in my office.  I believe that despite all differences, we all have tremendous value and dignity.  Which is why as a person of faith, I am comfortable incorporating spiritual content into my sessions, as requested. However, I strive to create a safe space, free of discrimination, for all people.

My Services

I offer counseling services as a Pre-Licensed Professional Counselor for individuals, ages 18 and beyond. I am happy to offer sessions in person or via a secure telehealth platform. I like to offer potential clients a complimentary 15-minute phone consultation in order to learn more about you and establish whether or not I might be a good fit for your needs.

As a licensed counselor, I have received education at the graduate level, and am completing the remaining educational and practice requirements for my Clinical license. This means that I am qualified to sit with clients, but am also under the training, guidance, and supervision, of other qualified and credentialed clinicians. This can be a bonus to my clients, as it means that the quality of your care and of my services is accountable to an experienced team.

A counseling session is 50 minutes long and costs $120. However, I am able to reduce my rate as needed.  One of the great benefits of being a Private practice counselor is that I am able to offer quality care with a sliding scale flexible fee when available. I strive to make sure that financial constraints don't keep you from reaching out and getting the help you need.

"You may not control all the events that happen to you, but you can decide not to be reduced by them."
